Before you leave, consult the UCLouvain health course for students from outside the EU and INAMI resources on affiliation and the choice of mutuality. Have your status, necessary documents and effective date specified.
Compare the contributions, reimbursement terms, additional services and costs remaining your responsibility. Compulsory insurance and additional coverage are separate.
Provide coverage from the trip until your effective affiliation in Belgium. If you are on a scholarship or covered by an agreement with your country of origin, ask your coordinator and the insurer to confirm the period, territory and care covered, as well as the steps remaining to be taken. A scholarship does not allow you to assume that all medical expenses are covered. If you are undergoing treatment, take your prescriptions and useful information to the doctor.
